Queens County Farm Museum produces local raw honey with the kind of agricultural legitimacy almost no urban institution can match. The farm’s apiary program includes 12 honeybee hives, extends a beekeeping legacy of more than 40 years and, in partnership with beekeeper Ruth Harrigan of HoneyGramz, is projected to yield roughly 1,000 pounds of honey a year. The farm store describes its honey as a wildflower honey made from nectar collected from flowers and vegetables grown on-site, then bottled seasonally in one-pound jars. The museum also treats the bees as part of a broader public-education mission, with bee-focused programs for school groups and hands-on events that let visitors study pollination, hive hierarchy and honey extraction.
